A chimney breast taken out between a living room and dining room, with the rooms sheeted and protected throughout. Once the brickwork was dealt with, the wall became home to a full-width media wall.
04 Done properly
A chimney holds up more than you'd think. Here's what a proper removal covers, and what to ask any installer about.
Removing a chimney breast is controlled work. Building Control is notified, the job inspected, and you get a completion certificate for when you sell.
Anything left above is carried on a steel beam or approved brackets, with an engineer's calculations where needed.
Most Sussex terraces and semis share the chimney wall. Your neighbour gets proper notice under the Party Wall Act.
Gas fires are disconnected by a Gas Safe engineer, and any flue left behind is capped and vented to stop damp.
05 How it works
Four steps, one team, and no guesswork about what happens next.
Send photos or book a visit. We check what is above and around the chimney and what consents you need.

07 Areas we cover
Residential and commercial chimney work from Chichester to Eastbourne and up to Crawley, from our base in Worthing.
We also cover Crawley, Bognor Regis, Arundel, Steyning, Storrington, Portslade, Eastbourne and Seaford, and the villages in between.
There is no single price because jobs vary so much. The main factors are scaffolding, how many floors are involved, whether the stack stays or goes, and whether steel support and an engineer’s calculations are needed. Send us photos of the chimney and we will give you a fixed quote for your house in Sussex.
Removing a chimney breast needs Building Regulations approval because it is structural. Planning permission is not normally needed unless the house is listed or the stack is visible in a conservation area. If the chimney is on a party wall, you must also serve notice on your neighbour under the Party Wall Act.
If part of the chimney is left above the section you remove, usually yes, because Building Control will want calculations for the support. If the whole chimney comes out from the ground floor to the roof, often not.
Yes, most quotes can be given from photos of the room and the outside of the chimney. If anything needs checking in person, we arrange a visit.
Send us a few photos and we will give you a free, no-obligation quote.
